Canouan

Carenage Bay is an ultra-luxury resort located on picturesque Canouan Island in the West Indies. Spread across more than 200 acres on the remote island, 30 miles south of St. Vincent and adjacent to Mustique, this $160 million luxury resort opened in 1999.  Carenage Bay is European-styled with tropical and Mediterranean accents, evident in the colorful designs of the 178 villa suites all overlooking the sea. Against a spectacular white sand beach backdrop, the resort features a magnificent par-75, 18-tee, 13-green, golf course, which is currently being extended to a full 18-hole championship course, a deluxe European casino, several private yachts, tennis, sports and scuba diving, a health and fitness center with spa facilities, one of the Caribbean's largest freshwater pools, four restaurants and bars.

Canouan Island plays its Trump card Donald Trump joins Raffles Hotels in the development of Canouan Island as a luxury destination - New York, Ny (November 19, 2003) Donald J. Trump and Canouan Resorts Development, Ltd. (CRD) have announced that Mr. Trump will be developing luxury villas and estate properties on Canouan Island, and Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts, Inc. (NYSE:DJT) (THCR) will manage the operations at the island's casino. This is the latest in a series of Canouan Island announcements regarding the team of high-profile partners coming together to create the Caribbean's newest luxury leisure destination.Flight Information
Scheduled Flights Canouan Resorts Development (CRD), the island's project developer, contracted a 99-year lease with the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines for the development of 1,200 acres on the northern end of Canouan Island and began development in 1994.

With the signing of contracts for both the casino and real estate development, Trump has officially joined the Canouan conglomerate in turning the island into a major, multi-faceted vacation spot that will attract sophisticated, international travelers. Last month, CRD announced its management agreement with Raffles International Ltd. to operate the island's 156-room luxury resort, formerly known as Carenage Bay. The resort is scheduled to re-open in mid-2004 as the Raffles Resort at Canouan Island, The Grenadines.

The casino management agreement will represent the first gaming operations of THCR in the Caribbean. "It's great to be branching out into the Caribbean" stated Trump, "I'm pleased to have the opportunity to participate in making Canouan the Caribbean's next major vacation destination."

Trump's real estate project on the island will entail several phases beginning with the development of 15 custom-built Estate Villas and 10 Golf Villas along the Jim Fazio Championship Golf course at the Raffles Resort. THCR will operate the exclusive international club-style casino in the Villa Monte Carlo, a separate structure on the resort's property. The casino will offer a full array of table games expected by international travelers at a world-class resort, in elegant surroundings.

The Villa Monte Carlo will also house an upscale restaurant and ballroom. When all phases of the project are completed, Canouan Island will have a total of 30 Golf and Beach Villas, 18 Monte Carlo Villas, 20 Marina Villas and 67 Estate Villas. The Golf, Monte Carlo and Marina villas will be pre-designed and pre -furnished. The Estate Villas will be custom designed by the individual owners. Villa owners may also place their homes in a rental program. Phase One of the real estate project is scheduled to begin sales in the summer of 2004.

"We are very pleased Mr. Trump has agreed to join us in this venture," said Mr. Antonio Saladino, the Swiss banker, Chairman of Canouan Resorts Development. "To create one of the Caribbean's best luxury islands, we have sought out the best of the best in their industries. We now have Raffles International on -board -- one of the top hoteliers in the industry -- to manage the island's luxury resort. American Airlines is already established with Canouan as part of its network, and for the best sailing facility, we sought out The Moorings as one of the top charter-yacht companies in the world. They joined us on the island last year and Canouan is already their third largest base in the Caribbean. When looking for the top people in real estate development and casino management, we naturally looked to Mr. Trump as the best for the job."

Unspoiled and virtually undiscovered, Canouan is one of the Caribbean's most up and coming luxury destinations. Located in the heart of the Grenadines, less than 20 miles south of Mustique and 110 miles west of Barbados, the three square-mile island is surrounded by small bays and coves, secluded white sand beaches and one of the Caribbean's largest coral reefs, offering incredible diving and snorkeling. A short distance from the Tobago Cays in the southern Caribbean, Canouan's enviable location also provides some of the best sailing in the world. Canouan Island, "The Heart of the Grenadines"
A romantic vision and an economic reality

Canouan, St. Vincent & the Grenadines (October 2002)

Untouched spaces, isolation, feeling of a pristine Caribbean island, low density all blended with luxury amenities and a vibrant local community, are the dictates of this luxury development.

This is the meaning behind an operation that has developed over a ten year span through the investment to date of US$200 million and is the most important economic reality within St. Vincent & the Grenadines the multi island state in the Caribbean.

The Canouan Resorts Development (CRD) project which is all encompassing of this 3sq. mile island, has managed with sensitivity to develop the most difficult task of installing major infrastructure whilst adhering to the disciplines of unspoiled luxury.

A balanced development, that recognises the growing needs of the local community and of the visitor. Modern amenities have included, paved roads, electrical power, water production, a clinic, commercial jetty, new fisheries complex, early education facilities and a technical training school.

A modern airstrip has also made possible ease of access with American Eagle scheduling international flights.

As a result, Canouan Island was then ready to introduce to the tourist market a variety of products that cherish the individuals desire for something special and different within the Caribbean destinations.

Tamarind Beach Hotel & Yacht Club the first facility to be opened to the visiting public is a lively, barefoot elegant, Caribbean hideaway. It is perfect for anyone seeking freedom and fun. Located in the main village of Grand Bay it is a delightful all beachfront property.

With the newly opened Moorings Yacht base on its doorstep,
this part of the island is ideally positioned to enchant visitors to Canouan.
The ultra luxury Raffles Resort was introduced to the market in 1999. The precious last jewel of the renowned Italian architect Luigi Vietti, with its 59 villa suites nestled around a spectacular lagoon and marvelous white sandy beaches, it pampers guests with four restaurants, one of the largest pools in the southern Caribbean, a scenic Golf Course, and its five-star encompassing service.

In February 2002, the unsatisfactory management contract with Rosewood Hotels and Resorts was terminated and the Resort was temporary closed until the winter season of 2003.

This now enables the resort, in constant research to attain the highest quality, to add a whole range of new luxurious amenities including an extensive full serviced Spa and new beachfront Royal Suites.

The Resort is already ahead of schedule with the fabulous upgrading of the 18-hole Golf Course which Jim Fazio has created. "I haven't seen anything like the seven holes on top of the mountain - anywhere; as pretty a place as I've ever seen for playing golf" says Fazio.

The real estate development, with an additional investment of 250 million dollars, over the next 9 years, is sure to set the standards for luxury private residences. CRD in partnership with the Trump Organization for sales and marketing, Edward D. Stone and Associates for land planning, Ernst & Young (NY) for the financial business plan, and Ricketts & Associates for promotion, the vision is sure to become a successful reality.

Over the years CRD has grown with the community in the development of the island together. Going through some troubled times, but the days are long gone when candles were the only source of light, the sea - the only source of food, and migration - the only dream of progress. The community of Canouan also has plenty to say about the positive and beneficial results that have already been introduced and are excited about future plans.

Dawn Sandy, a local entrepreneur, said in a recent interview: "Canouan has more opportunities than any of the other Grenadines Islands. We are all realizing how important this development is to Canouan".

The vision of the Costa Smeralda in the Caribbean is well
on target.
