Sandy Island is a beloved spot for sailing boats to pass the night in the sheltered waters of the interior.A word of caution for sailors: Please protect the corals and dont just drop your anchor on the precious coral formations that still exist there.
Protect the environment and keep it all tidy and clean. That way others will be able to enjoy it too.

Storms and currents constantly work on Sandy Island.
One year the winds and waves will topple palms and scoop away sand; the next year or even the next week visitors will find a new stretch of beach, or that the lagoon has changed shape. The palmtree on this picture has for instance disappeared in 2002
What doesnt change is the basic combination of a long sweep of sand that embraces an excellent snorkeling reef.

  • Saline Island Carriacou
Saline Island CarriacouSaline Island Mooring Saline Island got it's name from the salt ponds.
This privately owned island has a large lagoon where the seawater evaporates and as result leaves a salty crust which in old days was collected for household use.
There is a small fortification on the north side of Saline Island , but it is not in use and now derelict.

  • White Island Carriacou

white_island_carriacou.jpgWhite Island CarriacouWhite island is a non inhabited island at two miles distance from the southern coast of Carriacou , opposite Cassada Bay.
Other islands next to White Island are Saline Island and Frigate Island.
White Island is a marine park because of its virgin reefs, and shoals of exotic tropical fish.
The island has one predominant rock which can be seen from far away.
It can be climbed by the adventurous, but bring some good shoes, and ability because there is no path up.

The sand of White Island is speckled with pink flints of Lambi (Conch) shells, and hence is a bit more course then beaches like Paradise Beach or Anse La Roche beach.
The advantage is that it does not stick to your body as the finer sand does.

white_island_carriacou_(13).JPGThere is vegetation on White Island, but no large trees apart from a few palms in the center.
Shrubs are mainly Seagrapes, and they provide for the essential shade.

White Island CarriacouA favorite for many to do here is spearfishing and snorkling, and later on grill the catch on a small barbeque.
There are a few spots where you can see that others have used it to make a small fire, so thats the best place to do the same.

Superb sand that shelves steeply into lovely clear water.
A real hideaway for the day.
There are no facilities so take water and supplies.
Anse La Roche Beach CarriacouGood snorkelling.
Be careful with regard to the security of your belongings as things have gone missing on Anse la Roche.
Pelicans, great snorkeling, and a shade hut.
Some sea turtles nest here too.
Look for the path down from the Old Island Road.

Newsflash
Notice to all visitors.

Turtle for the kitchen of Paradise InnThe content about the former Paradise Inn Carriacou has been unavailable for some time. This place now operates under a new name, since many visitors were extremely unhappy about it and wrote their experiences on sites like TripAdvisor and Yahoo travel guides.
My own experiences under the new management were extremely unpleasant and it even got dangerous staying in this hotel.
Bear in mind that there is no staff here at night and no measures for safety have been taken.
Property of guests disappears while the staff does not handle such problems. Some rooms dont even lock properly...

Dishonesty : The webhosting and maintenance, design and all other costs related have never been paid by the hotel owner Peter A.
The deal we had (free lodging in return for a good website) was not honoured by him, nor the promised pay of my flight to Carriacou.
Attempts to steal this website from me, later on threats and then even imprisonment for three days on false accusation was the result.
False quoting : Several hotel guests complained after they discovered that they had to pay 25 percent more then the price quoted. Complaints to be sent to the hotel owner in London, never received replies to those complaints....
The hotel is now using frequently changing email addresses from gmail or msn, probably to avoid receiving complaints...

But... I got several requests from visitors to make the Carriacou information easily accesible again.
I keep these pages online now.
As before, the Paradise Inn-related content will stay offline,
The former pleasant hotel Paradise Inn does not exist as such anymore.
It is now completely rundown and staff is unfriendly, even hostile towards visitors.
That is why I advise you not to visit this hell inn, but choose another hotel for your vacation on Carriacou.

Even though it now operates under a new name, you will know that it is the same one if you are on the south end of Paradise Beach on Carriacou and you see a blue building. If you are ignored by the staff when you enter you are shure that this is the same Hell Inn.
