History of the Bianca C
The Bianca C was a passenger ship that sank on two occasions, the first time in France before being completed, and the second time after an explosion and fire off the island of Grenada.
Built during World War II at Construction Navales La Ciotat, a shipyard on the southern coast of France, the boat was first launched in June 1944 under the name Marechal Petain. Construction had not yet been completed, so the ship was towed to Port de Bouc, near Marseille, where she was torpedoed by the Germans in August. When the hull was raised, it was renamed La Marseillaise and towed to Toulon before being returned to La Ciotat to be refitted as a cruise ship. When the remodeling was completed in July 1949, she sailed to Yokohama.

The visibility is excellent and it is definitely worth the day trip to Isle de Rhonde. Along with an abundance of smooth trunkfish and porcupinefish there is also a possibility to see eagle rays. I also saw a large lobster, approx 60cm.

Happy Valley Divesite Grenada
20-90ft (7-30m). Look for admiralty anchor. Wall dive.
Happy Valley is located off happy hill, home to ex prime-minister Dr. Keith Mitchell. This site is a really relaxing and chill out dive, with usually no or very little current, the dive can follow many different paths. Pay close attention to the reef to spot honeycomb cow fish that hang out here. Great Barracuda can be seen lurking in the sandy shallow seeking prey. Squid fly in formation as a family, but are very well camouflaged, tend to be swimming at the same level as the divers and appear translucent as they turn away. Good tidal movement makes this a good drift dive to Dragon Bay. Considered one of Grenada's prettiest sites, this wall dive begins in a shallow forest of brown coral and continues down a shelving slope covered in gorgonians. Tropical fish swirl like colourful confetti around towering formations of pillar coral. Amidst this stunning flora and fauna rests an ancient Admiralty anchor, a souvenir of Grenada's maritime history. When the tide is running, Happy Valley becomes a pleasant drift dive to Dragon Bay in a gentle, southerly current. Read more...

Flamingo Reef Divesite Grenada
Set in a bay just to the north of St George?s, Flamingo Reef can be snorkelled as well as dived, making it a good option if you have non-divers along. A mounded reef rises out of a grey sand bottom, reaching to within 15 feet of the surface and descending off the lip of the bay down to a maximum of 80ft. It is usually dived from the shallow end in a circle around the reef so that you descend and then return on the top of the reef from 45 feet, coming gradually back to the surface.
A shallow reef wall covered in spiralling sea whips. Very chilled dive and the sea here is a very pleasant turquoise blue colour. Find some cleaner shrimp in a barrel sponge and some juvenile angelfish. Wall full of reef fish - creole wrasse, yellow chromis, grunts and jack knife fish. Read more...

Grenada shipwrecks, the Shake em divesite
The Shark Elm or Shake Em is a recent casualty, sinking in 2001 and has the possibility of plenty of penetration. She was carrying a cargo of concrete at the time. Apparently her cargo shifted in rough seas and the ship capsized and went down. Today the Shark Elm sits upright in approx 99' of water. Divers can see both of her anchors in the bow and cargo crane amidships. Divers can also penetrate the wrecks interior to her cabin decks, generator room and even engine room. Gerald Kreutzer writes that The deck (with the huge concrete filled cargo hole) is at about 80 feet. It sank when the cargo shifted as a result of being overloaded, whilst in sight of the harbour. The ship lies upright, both anchors are down with the anchor chains still connected and there is a crane midships. If you drop onto the stern it is possible to work your way through the cabin decks and down into the lower rooms. On the second deck there is a generator room at the rear, but it is dark down here so a torch is essential. The entrance to the engine room is on the starboard, holding a large engine and some tool kits.

Wreckdiving at the San Juan Grenada
The San Juan is an old fishing boat. We do not know the history of this wreck or when she went down but the San Juan makes a great dive. There can be a current, but wreck divers can penetrate the interior of this shipwreck. The wreck which sits in 70' of water 2 miles from Hardy Bay, St Georges.

Wreckdive at the Buccaneer Grenada
This 18 metre sailing vessel lays on its side just off Molinere Reef . It is a photographers dream when the sun and water is right. It is home to a beautiful Queen Triggerfish with lots of schooling grunts and squirrelfish and also has a friendly octopus that lives in the chain locker. I have also seen one of the largest groupers lurking in between the ribs of the boat. As you head back towards the reef, look in the sand for an extensive eel garden. Source: Divegrenada
The Buccaneer, which is sitting in 80 feet of water, has done both magnificently, her hull supports a wide array of tropical fish and she is visited by hundreds of divers each year. Because her structure has become beautifully encrusted with soft corals and sponges, divers have found this site to be excellent for photography. The Buccaneer is also an ideal warm up dive for the deep wreck of the Bianca C.

Grenada scubadiving wreck of the Rum Runner Catamaran
Rum Runner, the remains of a working catamaran that sits next to a classic Caribbean reef. The wreck comes into view just below the surface. It has more photographic potential from above than at eye level, going against the grain of conventional underwater photographic technique. There's not much to the Rum Runner, just the twin hulls and some broken superstructure, but after some time submerged it has assembled a good collection of sponges and animals that assume it is all part of the reef.
If you're caught short, the toilet is still in place, though it's one of those marine ones which are difficult to use. It's in a pretty cramped place too, so I guess most of the crew just peed over the side. I would. At 30m, even on nitrox 32, time on the wreck is fairly short. I am soon heading up the slope onto the reef-flat at 14m. Read more...

The Quarter Wreck dive site on Grenada
This is an interesting and popular dive on Grenada that can be done as a night dive. The Quarter wreck is the stern section of a cargo vessel that lies next to Grand Reef, off Grenadas Quarantine Point. The propeller angled in mid water, the deckhouse and the engine room can all be explored. Marine life includes barracuda, angelfish, goatfish, snappers, lobsters and moray eels.
This makes for a chilled day dive but it is more interesting at night. You should see around 8 lobsters if you search in the broken up wreck and amongst the coral. This is no takeaway dinner, leave all in the sea... Look to the surface and watch for passing squid that come from the deep to feed at night. A huge Spider Crabby type of crustacean thing with a huge claw was scurrying over some brain coral. Lots of large urchins were also out feeding. Read more...
