Fishing Trips
Best time to go fishing on Carriacou is early in the morning. But even if you leave a bit later, there's plenty chance of a nice catch.
The fishermen usually have a good idea of where and when the fish can be found.
This local knowledge is essential. You'll probably be surprised by the ingenuous and simple ways of preparing fishing gear.
With just some galvanized wire and a large hook, a weight made out of an old engine part and some bait some amazing results are achieved.
Try to go fishing on a somewhat larger boat. That makes
walking around a pleasure, and even when there's a big fish to get brought on
board, there is still plenty of room to move for everyone.
Ready for fishing ?
If you don't have your own fishing gear with you, no problem. Just use the local
fishing tackle. If it's fine for the local population, it should serve you as well.
A plastic reel or even a soap bottle with a wire, a hook and some bait will
catch some very nice sized fish.
Preparing the Bait
The First Catch
This is a very typical sized fish here in these waters. But there's much larger
as well. Sometimes we catch big tunas, maui maui (also called dolphin) note: not
to be confused with flipper..and larger varieties like swordfish and marlin.
Normally the fish that we catch is served in our restaurant in the evening. What
better then eat the fish that you caught a few hours before? Plenty Variety
Now it's time to head for the beach bar. Escaped fish are getting larger in
everyones memories. Bring the catch of the day to the kitchen and get your well
deserved drinks.

Lucky Catch
This is definitely not a typical catch of the day, but it happens.
Read here about
Bottom Fishing techniques on Petit Martinique.
It is written by a local from Petit Martinique, and the website is well made and
informative.
Some extracts:
- 'Bottom
Fishing' has been part of the livelihood of the people of Petite Martinique
since the early 1800's, but it was not until 30 years ago that the
international market came into existence.
- When the fish
is sold to the Agent the local buyer is paid in Francs. The Francs cannot be
spent in petite martinique or Grenada, so the local buyers would exchange the
currency for 'E.C' (Eastern Caribbean Dollars).
- Bottom fishing
can be divided into two categories;
(1). Trap-Stick.
(2). Short-Rod.

visit this excellent site I will not write about this topic of the bottomfishing
