The Grenada Sailing Festival
The Grenada Sailing Festival attracts sailing enthusiasts from all over the world, and features four days of races and regattas and a day-long craft market and cultural street festival. In 2009, the festival celebrated its 16th anniversary with activities and races from Jan 30th to Feb 3rd. 2009 30th Jan - 1st Feb Friday 30th January
Its all happening on Grand Anse Beach The Grenada Sailing Festival has a slightly different history to many regattas in the region in that it was born from a tourism perspective rather than creating an event purely for yacht racing. Back in 1994, the aim was to pull together social and cultural elements to showcase Grenada designed to create an entertaining and different event for a fleet of Canadian sailors on an annual ?Sail-Away? Charter holiday ? it was not just a case of good winds, water & courses for racing.
The traditional work boat racing was introduced from the first event as a strong local and cultural element that would be new, exciting and different to visiting yachtsmen and give them a taste of Grenada to take home. This unique combination and tradition has been the ?hallmark? characteristic of the event, ever since summed up in just four words ?Pure Sail, Pure Spice? The event, the Port Louis Grenada Sailing Festival, is four days of keelboat racing Saturday to Tuesday, with the two day Work Boat Regatta, sponsored by Digicel, run in parallel over the week-end

The Spice Island Billfish Tournament of Grenada
The Spice Island Billfish Tournament is based at the Grenada Yacht Club located in the lagoon, St. George?s. There is fine deep-sea fishing around Grenada with many gamefish such as marlin, tuna and sailfish. The yacht club boasts an excellent dock with water, power and fuel available and is conveniently located close to the west coast fishing grounds. Offshore, the Caribbean Sea offers opportunities for anglers to catch big fish like marlin, sailfish, tuna, wahoo, dolphin, kingfish and more. The tournament consists of three fishing days separated by a lay day and is held at the end of January each year. The event normally boasts plenty of game fish action as it is positioned in the peak of the billfish season with sailfish, white marlin and blue marlin available. Click to register on-line.
In line with modern conservation practices the Spice Island Billfish Tournament is run as a modified release event where teams are encouraged to release the majority of the billfish they catch (a camera is provided to confirm the capture). Points are awarded for released billfish by species not by weight. Any billfish that are boated will score points only if they exceed the minimum weight limit for that species (points will be deducted for underweight fish). At the end of the tournament the boat and angler with the most points are the winners.

We fish four rods on the FISHING DECK plus one more rod from the FLYBRIDGE, this last one known as the SHOTGUN because it rides behind the other four lures farthest from the boat. Read more...

Concord Falls on Grenada, Au Coin falls and Fontainbleu falls
Concord Falls is actually a series three very picturesque waterfalls and are ideally suited for swimming. The first waterfall Concord Falls is accessible by road, the second Au Coin falls, and the third Fontainbleu falls are only accessible by foot.
Time: 1-2 hours. Difficulty: 2-3, slipper rocks. Trailhead: Drive to the Concord Valley and Concord River from the west coast. This is the drive-in approach, the one most visitors take. However, the majority of people see only the first waterfall, look and leave; only a few take the extra 20 minutes to walk to the upper falls. At the lower or first falls you can buy drinks as well as paddle around in the basin at the foot of the 35-foot high falls.
The lowest of the three is a very popular swimming area, camping spot, and tourist attraction, with modern facilities surrounding its generous swimming area.
Headed toward the upper falls, you'll pass through a nutmeg plantation.
The next falls, Au Coin falls takes about twenty minutes' Hiking up the river are definitely worth the short walk, as they are much less visited and even more beautiful. The 40 ft/12 m cascade plunges down through the thick vegetation to an inviting pool that offers a much more tranquil swim than you will find at the lower falls.

Annandale Falls are easily accessible, small and offers recreational opportunities and scenic beauty to its visitors. There is a well tended foot path by which persons can take to the falls, lined with fruit trees and shrubs. It is located on the outskirts of St.George and is only a short distance from the main road. The waterfall is only 30 feet tall, yet because of its accessibility it remains one of the most frequently visited by both locals and tourists alike.
Grenada has many other Waterfalls which are well worth visiting.

Built in 1937 in the southeastern part of the island, the Woodlands factory produces sugar, fancy molasses, rum, and methylated spirits. Five hundred local farmers grow and harvest the cane processed at the factory. Since the sugar refinery and distillery are integrated, they can make the most efficient use of the cane that cost EC $120 per ton in 1995. Depending on the production schedule of the sugar refinery, a combination of fresh cane juice, concentrated cane syrup, and molasses are fermented to make rum. During the cane-cutting season, from February to June, fresh cane juice is used as it is available. In the fall, cane syrup is used since it can be stored longer than the fresh juice, which is unavailable in the fall. Read more...
