  • The Grenada Sailing Festival
Sailing Regatta GrenadaThe Grenada Sailing Festival The Grenada Sailing Festival attracts sailing enthusiasts from all over the world, and features four days of races and regattas and a day-long craft market and cultural street festival.
In 2009, the festival celebrated its 16th anniversary with activities and races from Jan 30th to Feb 3rd. 2009 30th Jan - 1st Feb
    Friday 30th January

Its all happening on  Grand Anse Beach
The Grenada Sailing Festival has a slightly different history to many regattas in the region in that it was born from a tourism perspective rather than creating an event purely for yacht racing.
Back in 1994, the aim was to pull together social and cultural elements to showcase  Grenada designed to create an entertaining and different event for a fleet of Canadian sailors on an annual ?Sail-Away? Charter holiday ? it was not just a case of good winds, water & courses for racing.

The Grenada Sailing Festival The traditional work boat racing was introduced from the first event as a strong local and cultural element that would be new, exciting and different to visiting yachtsmen and give them a taste of Grenada to take home. This unique combination and tradition has been the ?hallmark? characteristic of the event, ever since summed up in just four words ?Pure Sail, Pure Spice?
The event, the Port Louis Grenada Sailing Festival, is four days of keelboat racing Saturday to Tuesday, with the two day Work Boat Regatta, sponsored by Digicel, run in parallel over the week-end

The tournament consists of three fishing days separated by a lay day and is held at the end of January each year.

    Click to register on-line.

In line with modern conservation practices the Spice Island Billfish Tournament is run as a modified release event where teams are encouraged to release the majority of the billfish they catch (a camera is provided to confirm the capture).
Points are awarded for released billfish by species not by weight.
Any billfish that are boated will score points only if they exceed the minimum weight limit for that species (points will be deducted for underweight fish).

Newsflash

This hotel has changed management in 2005 and is no longer recommended.
You might acounter this hotel on Carriacou under its new name.
It is located at the south end of Paradise Beach, painted blue.
The owner decided to change the name of Paradise Inn Carriacou  after many visitors wrote about their unpleasant experiences on the TripAdvisor and Yahoo travel guides.
Better would have been to improve the hotel security and get rid of the uninterested staff, but thats their choice.
Personal experiences and many reports from other visitors during the years following the management change have shown a complete neglect of the premises.
Guests are now seen as a nuisance by the staff, the owner is never present.
Unsafe conditions, no guards and no phone for emergencies.
Even though the location is perfect for a vacation, this hotel is definitely not worth visiting.
