With the most active part of the hurricane season upon us, the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) will on Sunday conduct a series of simulation exercises across the island to test its response capabilities to a hurricane or tropical storm. The exercises will be held between the hours of 9.00 am and 1.00 pm and are expected to involve and engage all divisions of the RGPF. A release issued by police media consultant, Troy Garvey, stated that the exercise is intended to assess the readiness of the Force to efficiently mitigate, and test response capabilities to circumstances arising from a hurricane, which includes all three phases - Preparation, The Blow and The Response. According to Garvey, the exercises are expected to be very realistic, giving precise timings, locations and expected or assumed implications that would result from the hurricane With the devastation in some Caribbean Islands caused by hurricanes Gustav and Ike in recent days, the RGPF believes that it is imperative to ensure that all its mechanisms are in place in the event that a hurricane or storm should affect the island. According to Garvey, the general public should not be alarmed by the traffic delays and/or diversions in the areas where the exercises will be conducted. This is the second exercise of this nature conducted by the RGPF in preparation for the 2008 Atlantic Hurricane season. |
