Grenada police files missingThe opposition New National Party.(NNP) in Grenada has taken the new Commissioner of Police James Clarkson to task for what it described as a misleading statement he made that files in the Special Branch Unit of the Royal Grenada Police Force were destroyed shortly after the July 8 elections.
A statement by the opposition said that the misleading statement, "gave the perception that certain files were deliberately destroyed in order to hide certain information. It further gave the impression that this action was taken to protect the former Government."
It added, "If the Commissioner took the time off to research, he would have learnt that all the information that he has reported as missing from that Department are all on the computer system which the United States Government gave to the Royal Grenada Police Force nearly three years ago”.
The statement explained that after important and relevant information is placed in the computer, the paper files are destroyed. Additionally there is a back-up system in place keeping all records, just in case there is a problem in the main system, so that there is no need to keep a stack of paper documents in the Unit to clog up the limited space.
The NNP calls on the Commissioner to avoid taking any hasty action or making any unnecessary public comments which can further demoralize members of the Police Force as their services are so necessary to maintaining the peace and stability the country has enjoyed over the last 13 years.
