This thread discusses the Content article: Tillman Thomas - New PM for Grenada Carriacou and Petit Martinique

Dear Sir:

I am writing to say “thank you” to Grenadians at home and abroad for voting NDC in the general election held on Tuesday, 8 July 2008. I would also like to congratulate our newly elected Prime Minister Tillman Thomas and all members of his party for the pre-planned strategy, which was well executed. Also, the hard work endured to secure victory in the election. Some of the ground work that was covered months in advance of the election date was excellent.

Grenada and Grenadians who managed to sleep on election night woke up to a new dawn; a new awakening; new challenges on Wednesday, 9 July, and hopefully with a new sense of purpose. “Freedom at last! Freedom at last!” Our country and our people are now free of the likes of Keith Mitchell and his NNP hierarchies.

No longer will Grenadians at home and abroad be afraid to speak out whenever they believe it is necessary. No longer will we as a people be afraid of the consequences of what might happen to us as individuals or our kin folks. No longer will we be concern of our country being run as a police state or a banana republic. I refer to the incident at NDC offices in Lucas Street earlier this year and the bizarre aftermath that followed.

What we were witnessing was a panic government headed by discredited individuals, who were prepared to do whatever it takes to cling on to the levers of power. These are people whose behaviour at times was like pigs with their nose in the trough.

Their arrogance and contempt for the law of the land and the people they were supposed to serve and protect were beyond belief. They ran our country so badly they lost half their MPs at the general election.

Yes, the Doc’s rule is well and truly over but the odours of his regime’s excesses will take time to dissipate. In the meantime, the work of rebuilding our nation has only just begun, so let us all join together, roll up our sleeves and work in partnership with this newly elected government to help implement the change that we all know is so badly needed in our country.

When next I go through Points Saline my hope is that I will not see those hideous photographs of Mitchell and his former ministers lining the street – another waste of public funds.

What I would like to see are displays that promote Grenada such as places of interest; new developments and perhaps government departments, where people can obtain information on investments and investment opportunities.

Perhaps the government could also advertise the benefits available to investors in different parts of the country. Billboards with ongoing investments and expansion programmes would also be useful to visitors as well as citizens considering a return to their homeland on a permanent basis.

I have a particular interest in our library services and I will be writing to our Prime Minister and perhaps the Minister of Education and Human Resources in the next few days seeking their assistance. I have written to the former Minister for Education and the Director of Libraries over the past two years but had little or no response; I am hopeful a change in government will see a change in attitude.

God bless Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

Notice :

Recently this hotel has changed its name as a response to the negative comments by visitors on Yahoo and TripAdvisor.
However, the service and treatment of guests has not changed.
More reports about unsafe conditions have reached us, as well as serious complaints about the hygiene at this hotel.
Se be warned... even though this place is not called the Paradise Inn Hotel any longer, it is still the same dangerous place to stay.
Extremely bad experiences by myself and other visitors have led to this decision.
Visiting the hotel is on your own risk.
This is the only place on Carriacou where I have experienced racism against people with a fair skin.
My property was stolen and my hammock was cut to pieces.
From other visitors there are reports about unfair quoting, attempted burglary while people were sleeping in their bedroom and two cases of food poisoning....

You will find this place on the south end of Paradise Beach, it is painted in blue.
