Notice to all visitors.
The content about the former Paradise
Inn Carriacou has been unavailable for some time. The webhosting and maintenance, design and all other costs related have never been paid by the hotel owner
Peter A.
The deal we had (free lodging in return for a good website) was not honoured by
him, nor the promised pay of my flight to Carriacou.
My experiences in this ''hotel'' have been horrendous and even resulted in
personal attacks and theft of my property.
I got seriously harrassed during my last stay in this place.
My hammock was cut to pieces, and I received severe threats of what would happen
if I didn't give this website in their hands.
(it is my duty as hotel manager to obtain your access details for the
website, Mrs. Brenda P. would later state).
Indeed, things got even worse...
During my stay I witnessed severe animal maltreatment, turtles and iguana were
used for food, and two puppies got
brutally killed by the kitchen chef. (On orders of Mrs. Brenda P.)
All that was enough for me to remove the hotel recommendations and reservation
page from this site.
But... I got several requests from visitors to make the Carriacou information easily accesible again.
I keep these pages online now.
As before, the Paradise Inn-related content will stay offline,
The former pleasant hotel Paradise Inn does not exist as such anymore.
It is now completely rundown and staff is unfriendly, even hostile towards visitors. That is why I advise you not to visit this hell inn, but choose another
hotel for your vacation on Carriacou. |

Mustique

The history of the island of Mustique goes back to
the fifteenth century when Spanish
sailors first sighted a group of islands naming them 'Los Pajoros'
or 'the birds' as they resembled a flock of tiny birds in flight. In the
seventeenth century the islands were renamed The Grenadines by pirates who
used the sheltered bays to hide their ships and treasure. The Grenadines
were later utilised by European planters to grow sugar until the discovery
in the nineteenth century that sugar beet would grow in Europe. Mustique's
sugar plantations were soon abandoned and eventually swallowed up by wild
jungle leaving only the sugar mill at 'Endeavor' and its 'Cotton
House.'
Mustique was eventually purchased in 1958 by Lord
Glenconner under whose guidance the island began to thrive once again. HRH
The Princess Margaret accepted his generous gift of a ten-acre plot of
land as a wedding present in 1960 on which she built a magnificent
residence, 'Les Jolies Eaux.' In 1989 Mustique island was transformed from
a family estate into a community of people dedicated to maintaining and
enhancing the island for generations to come.
Today Mustique retains its natural beauty and
tranquility, protecting the environment and offering guests one of the
most secure and pristine islands in the world.
.
Mustique is a picturesque and secluded 1,400 acre
island surrounded by nine beaches of pure white sand, with gently swaying
coconut palms and warm turquoise waters.
Macaroni Beach is perhaps the most famous of
Mustique's beaches and is situated on the east coast of the island. Other
popular beaches on the Atlantic or Caribbean are Endeavour, Lagoon,
L'Ansecoy and Simplicity, several of which have picnic hut facilities.
Reservations for picnic tables can be made through the Villa Rentals
Department
Mustique lies 18 miles south of St. Vincent in a
collection of unspoilt islands in the Eastern Caribbean. Mustique
encompasses only 1,400 acres, measuring 1.5 miles wide by 3 miles long of
rolling hills and lush terrain with stretches of deserted white sand
beaches surrounded by protected reefs and clear aquamarine
seas.
The exclusive island of Mustique is at the northern
tip of The Grenadines bordered by the Caribbean Sea to the west and the
Atlantic Ocean to the east. It is part of the Lesser Antilles that are, in
turn, part of the Windward Islands of the Caribbean. Mustique is reached
by air from North America and Europe through Barbados, St. Vincent,
Canouan, Grenada, Martinique, St. Lucia, Puerto Rico or
Trinidad.

-
The first settlers, the Amerindians appropriately
referred to Carriacou as the 'Land of Reefs'. The surrounding waters
teem with a variety of marine life, creating the perfect underwater
experience.
-
Carriacou was settled by the French, but in 1763
was ceded with Grenada to the British. The majority of the inhabitants
today are of African descent, with the influence in the island mainly
British, such as driving on the left, though French names are still
noticed, especially in the L'Esterre area. The village of Windward was
home to a group of Scottish boatbuilders who settled here in the 19th
century. The Scottish names and boatbuilding skills have been passed
down through the generations. Many locally built boats from small
fishing sloops to large trading schooners are seen in the Carriacou
waters. Boat building is still carried out in the traditional way on the
beaches but fewer have been built in recent years.
