St. Mark’s, Grenada (June 20, 2008) LEADER of the National Democratic Congress Hon Tillman Thomas this morning met with two of the people who were injured following the collapse of a stage at a political event in Victoria last night.
Four people were injured when the stage collapsed, but two have been kept at the General Hospital. The stage was rented from, and constructed by members of the Waggy T Sound System.
Head of Waggy T Sound System Wayne Redhead said his company is investigating the incident, including whether it might have been a case of sabotage.
Redhead said the same stage has been used at many similar events, and they never had such an incident before officials of the National Democratic Congress say there are carrying out their own independent investigations into the matter, though their immediate concern is the heath of the people who have been injured.
Top officials of the party have been in-touch with the families of the affected people, and have also visited the general hospital. Among those making visits earlier today was St Marks candidate Osbourne James and St John’s candidate Michael Church.
Party Leader Tillman Thomas and other top executive members were on stage during the collapse, but were unhurt. Immediate steps were taken by the team to ensure the political leader was secure, and that there was no breach of his personal security.
The party’s campaign security team has been mandated by the leadership to provide an immediate report on the incident this morning.
